Richard Linton Specialist Back Care

I am Bio-medical Scientist with twenty seven years experience of working in National Health Service Hospitals. During the last seven years of my NHS career I became interested in natural medicine. I researched the Osteopathic and Chiropractic field and trained in several natural health therapies which I considered had a good scientific background.

One of the therapies I trained in was an advanced back and musculo-skeletal therapy. In 1996 I left my NHS post as clinical manager in Middlesbrough General Hospital and together with my wife Theresa I opened a Natural Health Centre. I now have a reputation for being able to help people with difficult back problems, frozen shoulders, as well as all manner of joint problems and unresolved sports injuries. I have developed such a treatment skill and understanding in the field of back and skeletal problems that I can usually help people who have previously not been helped by either orthodox or alternative therapies.

I can help you if you have any of the following:

  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Hip pain and lack of mobility
  • Golfers shoulder
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sports injuries
  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Arthritis
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Sinusitis
  • Asthma
  • Foot, ankle knee and leg problems
  • Leg length differences supported by shoe inserts
  • Joint pains
  • Post operative adhesion problems
  • Jaw and TMJ problems

I have an expertise in reducing injuries caused by trauma and assault injuries, car accidents, bad falls, blows to the head and ongoing or unresolved sports injuries.

I can help resolve problems caused by childbirth or difficult births treating both mothers and babies. I can help infant problems such as colic, poor sleeping, unexplained crying, poor feeding, slow or missed crawling stages. Poor co-ordination skills, lack of concentration, over activity and over stimulated behaviour.

I have gained a reputation for helping where all other therapies have been unsuccessful

My background in Bio-medical science has helped me to have an enquiring mind in the field of musculo-skeletal problems and a desire to look for a deeper understanding of what holds long-term strains and tension in the body. I wanted to know why some strains release quickly and why others seemed to take much longer to resolve. I have worked in this area for many years looking for techniques and skills that will help me become a knowledgeable specialist in the field of skeletal problems. My skill in back and skeletal treatments and cranio-sacral therapy has allowed me to create a unique and integrated technique forming an extremely powerful corrective therapy.

THE PROBLEM

Many times, strains and damage caused by accidents etc. can still be found in the body years after the causative event. It appears that the body's main defence to strains is to lock them in with muscular spasm to minimise the effect of the injury. Often, the strain is stored in the body in this defensive way. The body then adjusts other parts of the musculo-skeletal system as a compensation to the point that the original strain appears to have gone away. Sometimes there may be residual restriction of movement, stiffness, numbness, pain, and sometimes, acute pain. These side effects often 'come and go' and we are often convinced by ourselves or others that we have a weakness and have to live with it. Exercises are sometimes prescribed but may have little effect.

I have found that we do not need to suffer these restrictions even if we have had them for many years. Older strain injuries can get mixed up with more recent strains to form a complex pattern that can seem difficult to resolve. Many people have often lived for months and sometimes years with a lower back problem which they regard as a permanent weakness.

I find people live with long-term back and neck and problems and with poor or restricted movement. They live with painful feet, swollen and stiff knees and shoulders that ache or have restricted or poor movement. These strains left untreated and unresolved can be one of the major causes of more serious problems such as arthritis, surgical disc removal etc. and the need for hip and knee replacements many years later.

The general medical 'wear and tear' label given to explain long term damage is often too simplistic. What I have witnessed in my clinic shows strain and tissue torsion that has been left untreated for years and is behind most long term muscular skeletal damage. These things can be treated very successfully if the degeneration has not gone too far.

THE TREATMENT

My treatment consists of a combination of very precise, gentle physical movements designed to release these protective locked-in strains and release hidden strain patterns. I include cranio-sacral work which is another extremely gentle therapy technique. This allows normal joint movement to be restored and stiffness and inflammation to be reduced or eliminated. Most osteopathic and chiropractic corrections are acheived by forceful manipulation by contrast my treatments are gentle but they are extremely powerful in correcting problems. Remedial massage is often included at the end of the treatment to consolidate the treatment. All my treatments are tailored to suit individual and specific needs.

The number of treatments required varies considerably depending on the complexity of the problem. Typically, four to six treatments is often enough. More complex problems can take more work than this. The gentleness of the treatments allows me to be able to help older people as well as children and babies with utter safety. Young people and children correct quicker than do older people although I have successfully helped many eighty year old ladies and gentlemen.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

"Following an assault a year ago I had suffered chronic lower back pain. I had osteopathic and chiropractic treatments but nothing seemed to really help. I was recommended to see Richard and after just three treatments, I was free of pain and I felt amazingly well"

Dave - Newcastle.

"I had been told that following my whiplash injury six years ago there was nothing that could be done for what I was told was my permanent damage. I couldn't drive my car anymore and lived with permanent pain. I had several treatments from Richard and after six treatments I returned to driving my car which was a wonderful experience for me. Five years on from my treatments with Richard, I have remained pain free and driving is a normal everyday event for me."

Jean - Yarm.

"My foot was painful and swollen and my walk had become a stiffened limp. At seventy two years of age, I was told "what do you expect at your age". "It took about eight treatments with Richard to clear the swelling and the acute stiffness I had but now I can walk normally again and better still I have returned to playing golf!"

Andrew - Yarm.

"I had suffered M.E. for two years and had been forced to leave my job due to chronic fatigue. Within two months of being treated by Richard, I had recovered my health and had started my own plumbing business again. I now see him three monthly for maintenance treatments as my job is very stressful and I enjoy the benefits I get."

John - York.

"I had suffered regular migraine headaches for thirty years before coming to see Richard. I had several treatments and to my utter delight I no longer have to live with the constant fear of waiting for the next migraine."

Alice - Thirsk.

Richard Linton's Professional Qualifications

Richard is a Bio Medical Scientist by profession with qualifications in Haematology, and Blood Transfusion Science. He has almost thirty years of clinical experience in N.H.S. hospitals and in medical laboratory science. He was clinical manager of the blood transfusion centre at South Tees NHS Hospitals Trust before he left in 1996 to set up his own natural health practice with his wife.

Richard trained in clinical hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and Neuro Lingistic Programming (NLP) between 1989 and 1996 at the Proudfoot School of Clinical Hypnosis. As a scientist, he had the privileged support of some Consultant Physicians who allowed him to share his knowledge with those patients who wanted to explore alternative medicine and play some part in their own healing. He developed courses and workshops to share Emotional Healing Techniques with hospital patients.

From 1990 to 1999, Richard trained in Amatsu Medicine and Tai-Jutsi to learn the body skills necessary to correct postural strains and joint problems.Dr Masaaki Hatsumi,The Grand Master of Ninjutsu is the source of Amatsu Medicine.

Amatsu Medicine a gentle physical therapy used in correcting a wide range of physical problems. It is a highly specialised therapy incorporating Japanese natural health principles from the teachings of Dr Masaaki Hatsumi. It incorporates skilful precise soft joint movements to encourage re-alignment of the spine or joint etc. As re-alignment is achieved, muscular spasm and pain subsides and releases allowing normal function to return.

From 1999 to the present time, Richard has extensively trained in Cranio Sacral Therapy, with the Upledger Institute. Richard's intent is to continue further to expand his knowledge and expertise in helping people with back and other spinal related problems.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy is an extremely gentle physical therapy from the work of Dr John Upledger, an eminent doctor and osteopath in America. It has its roots in the discoveries of Dr. Andrew Still who created osteopathy and Dr. William Sutherland who created cranial osteopathy.

Richard is a member of the British Register of Complementary Practitioners.
